Tagreed Darghouth

Born in 1979, Darghouth pursued her studies in Painting and Sculpture at the Lebanese University of Fine Arts in Beirut in 2000, followed by Space Art at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD) in Paris in 2003. She also trained under Syrian-German artist Marwan Kassab Bashi at Darat Al Funoun in Amman during 2000 and 2001. The artist has showcased her work extensively on the international stage.
Notable exhibitions include: Arteclassica, 3rd Art Fair in Buenos Aires, Argentina 2006; Subtitled: With Narratives from Lebanon at the Royal College of Art in London 2011; Re-orientation II at the Rose Issa Project in London 2012; Thin Skin: Six Artists from Beirut at Taymour Grahne Gallery in New York 2014; and 100 Chefs d’Oeuvre de L’Art Moderne et Contemporain Arabe at the Barjeel Collection, Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris 2017.
Darghouth employs abstract impressionism and impasto techniques, utilizing gestural brushstrokes to explore themes of structural violence, popular culture, and marginalized communities.
Her modernist perspective on contemporary issues blends diverse sources of inspiration. Darghouth draws from the works of artists such as British portraitist Lucian Freud and the provocative German artist Georg Baselitz, alongside the old masters Rembrandt van Rijn and Gustave Courbet, as well as modernists Chaim Soutine and Willem de Kooning. By connecting influences across cultures and eras, she frequently engages with ideas from philosophy, music, literature, and subaltern histories.
