Souad Abdelrasoul

Born in 1974, Souad Abdelrasoul is an Egyptian artist who lives and works in Cairo, in 1998 she graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts. She then obtained her master’s degree in History of Art in 2005, Abdelrasoul has earned her Ph.D. in Modern Art History in 2012. Souad’s artworks have been exhibited widely since 1998, both locally and internationally. Souad Abdelrasoul sought to redefine the links between plants, water, animals, and humans in her art. Her artistic practice spans the mediums of drawing, painting, sculpture and graphic design that fuses abstract and figurative art. By depicting metamorphosed figures, the artist doesn’t seek to visualize human physical beauty but attempts to rethink the connections between humans and the elements of existence like earth, water, and plants. Throughout her artworks, Souad unravels the mysteries of her legendary world, urging spectators to wonder whether art follows the logic of rational choices in the world in which we live, or whether it creates its own theory and inner logic. Women often stand out in Abdelrasoul work as one of the main parts of creation, exploring the relationship between women and cultural values.
